David, Your little house looks lovely. I've never seen it before. I check your blog constantly for news and look forward to hearing about your arrival and settling in. My thoughts and prayers are with you every single day. It is wonderful what you have taken on -- you are carrying on the family tradition of missionarying and I am so proud of you. Pray for Peter -- he is out living on the street, using again, so things are not any better for Mark and I here, but I get my mind and heart away from the bad stuff by thinking of what you and Sandy are doing. Pls let me know if you think there is anything i can do to help you. Have a great Christmas, David and Sandy. Love always from your sister Denyse
In January of 2007 Sandy and I had the privilege of taking part in a short term mission trip to the Dominican Republic with a group of 10 sponsored by Runnymede Community Church.
Although the impact of the trip on the folks in the Dominican (D.R.) was probably slight, the impact on Runnymede and those of us who participated was incredible. It was almost like an awakening.
Sandy and I were overwhelmed by the experience and have been unable, or perhaps unwilling to let it become just another memory tucked away with the vacation photos. The unmet needs we saw broke our hearts and we have been feeling a gentle, but quite insistent tug to "Go Back and Do Something".
And so, after much prayer, introspection, discussion and sleepless nights, Sandy and I began putting together plans to return to the D.R. for one year. (Beginning in January '08)
We earnestly ask for your prayers and support for us, but even more so for the needs of those in the Dominican Republic. There is not much we can do in our own power -- only with God can we truly make a difference. We go willing to take on whatever opportunity is placed before us. Our own plans and skills feel woefully inadequate and naive but we serve a God able to overcome and to use even our shortcomings. I thank God for your support, and rest in the knowledge that we are covered and upheld by your prayers.
Not in our own power -- only with Jesus Christ in us can we truly make a difference.
Though we make our own plans and hone our skills, they are woefully inadequate and naive but we serve a God who uses our shortcomings.
"My only boast, my only confidence, my only hope, is in Christ."
